Who We Are
Our story

The Institute of the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary was founded on 6 January 1877 by Blessed Mary of the Passion and her 19 companions. It is an international women's religious institute of pontifical right, belonging to the Third Order Regular of Saint Francis while observing its own Constitutions.Sisters live in intercultural, international communities among people of different faiths, ready to go anywhere to spread God's love — inspired by Mary's "yes" and by contemplation of the Eucharist.
How JASMYM Came to Be

Our region's roots trace to 1953, when the first FMM Sisters arrived in Southeast Asia under a province then called "The Immaculate Heart," originally grouping Indonesia, Australia, and Singapore-Malaya (source: history.catholic.sg, corroborated by /historymysg.html). Over the decades, provincial and regional structures evolved. Today, JASMYM brings together Sisters serving in Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, and Myanmar — sharing formation, leadership, and mutual support, while each country develops ministries suited to its own people.
